Villa Alejo
Nestled within the Villa Alejo complex – a crown jewel of Palm Springs Midcentury Modern design, featuring an impressive briese soleil exterior, a lush interior courtyard, and a champagne-cork pool.
History
Built in 196X by famed designer X as a hotel, VIlla Alejo was partially owned and designed by Rat Pack members including Sammy Davis Jr and Frank Sinatra. Marilyn Monroe was regularly photographed in the courtyard, and celebrieties would drive in from Hollywood or the Movie Colony across the street to party, relax, and be seen.
Villa Alejo featured the desert’s first underground parking garage ever, which kept everyone’s cars cool in the desert heat. A putting green and bingo lounge were the social centers of the community, .
In 197X, Villa Alejo was converted from a hotel to private condominiums. Like much of Palm Springs, Villa Alejo went through some tough times over the last decades. Now, there is a rejuvenated beautification and modernization effort underway.
